Emergency medical treatment, either in a Hospital or at a general practitioner's, is available without charge under the National Health Scheme to nationals from the European Union and a number of other European countries, as well as from Australia, New Zealand and various other countries throughout the world who have reciprocal arrangements with Britain (ask your own health service authority before leaving). Chemists dispense medicines prescribed by GPs for a charge fixed by the NHS.
