London Attractions - London Eye
When the Millennium Commission announced their intention to build an observation wheel that would stand 135 metres over the city of London , people were initially skeptical. But the British Airways London Eye has turned out to be the finest and most popular new attraction in London since Queen Victoria 's Great Exhibition. The London Eye now welcomes between 3.5 and 4 million guests every year.
Conceived and designed by Marks Barfield Architects , the London Eye is a feat of modern engineering, both beautiful to look at and beautiful to look from. The world's largest observation wheel offers a spectacular way to take in over 55 of London 's most famous landmarks in just 30 minutes! With amazing views to the edge and beyond the capital, it reveals parts of the city, which are simply not visible from the ground. For Londoners and visitors alike, it has become an essential port of call: relaxing, fascinating and inspiring, the Eye has become a definitive part of the London experience
Facing the Houses of Parliament across the Thames , the London Eye sweeps the skyline at 443 feet. The wheel's central hub and spindle are connected to the outer and inner rims by eighty fine cable spokes.
The 32 passenger capsules, positioned on the outside of the wheel structure, can carry 25 passengers each. Constantly revolving, the London Eye can carry up to 15,000 passengers a day, passengers get on and off whilst the Eye is in motion, don't worry it's a lot easier then it seems!
Combine your flight on the Eye with a 40 minute circular cruise on the Thames . Departing from the London Eye pier the commentary takes you from the Houses of Parliament to the Tower of London and back to the London Eye.
